AYRSHIRE CATTLE. This very popular and attractive breed of dairy cattle originates from Ayrshire in Scotland. The average mature Ayrshire cow weighs 1000-1300 pounds. Ayrshires have rich red brown markings on white. The red can be a paler brown/orange to an almost black dark brown, with or without coloured legs. They are known for low somatic cell counts and the ability to efficiently convert grass into milk. The breed's strongpoints also include the desired traits of easy calving, hardiness and longevity. |
